Psychosexual therapy is a specialist counselling (psychotherapy) therapy which focuses on aspects of human sexuality.  A psychosexual therapist has specialist skills and knowledge about human sexuality and is able to support to address difficulties in sexual functioning, sexual, gender and other (for example, poly, kink) identities, and other sexual concerns.  You don’t need to be in a relationship to attend sex therapy. I offer appointments for individuals and people in relationships.

Sex therapy uses talk-based strategies to investigate the feelings and behaviours related to sexual and non-sexual concerns. I work collaboratively and proactively with clients to address a wide range of problems. In a sex therapy session you may discuss how you view sex or sexuality, as well as complete exercises and activities between sessions.  In a sex therapy session you will never be asked to engage in any sexual behaviours in session or required to be naked.  Sex therapy, like other forms of counselling and psychotherapy is a professional counselling/psychotherapeutic approach governed by codes of ethics and practice.  Psychosexual therapy / psycho-sexology / clinical sexology / sex therapy / sexual counselling are terms that all mean the same thing.

Some of the Issues addressed in sex therapy:

  • Penis-owner sexual functioning issues; premature/rapid ejaculation, erectile dysfunction; anusmismus (painful anal play)

  • Vulva-owner sexual functioning issues; vaginismus, anorgasmia, genito-pelvic pain- penetration disorder (GP3D); painful sex

  • Mismatched desires; mixed libidos; high sex drive or low sex drives

  • Body image (including genital image / vulva image / penis image)

  • Sexuality exploration

  • Management of chronic health conditions that effects sex

  • Psychosexual education

  • Out-of-control sexual behaviours, including addictions with porn and sex

  • Sexual health concerns (sexually transmitted infections, HIV, HSV / herpes)
